GEAPP Sustainable Livelihood Literature Review

GEAPP Literature Review on Livelihoods
About the Client
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) supports an equitable energy transition by improving and creating livelihoods through productive use of energy (PUE). By investing in regions where energy access boosts productivity, GEAPP aims to advance both job creation and climate resilience.
My Role & Task
GEAPP commissioned a review to harmonise metrics for evaluating sustainable livelihoods across its programmes. My role was to lead a comprehensive desk review with a focus on equity and climate.
Conducted an extensive literature review of livelihood frameworks, with explicit attention to gender and climate integration.
Completed a two-phased analysis:
Phase 1: Mapped existing PUE-related programmes to identify best practices and gaps.
Phase 2: Developed targeted recommendations for refining GEAPP’s internal livelihood framework.
Impact
Strengthened GEAPP’s ability to measure how energy access impacts jobs, livelihoods, and equity outcomes.
Provided actionable recommendations that informed the refinement of GEAPP’s livelihood framework.
Enhanced the organisation’s strategic approach and effectiveness in integrating gender and climate perspectives into PUE investments.
